Christina Aguilera Takes Tough Questions on “Today”

Posted: 17 May 2011 11:33 AM PDT

Stepping out to promote her show "The Voice," Christina Aguilera was spotted at the "Today" show this morning (May 17).

The "Ain't No Other Man" songstress looked lovely in a cleavage-baring dress as she chatted with Matt Lauer about her life and career.

Lauer started in, "There have been some tough times this year: the National Anthem thing, the fall at the Grammys, the divorce, the public intoxication. There was a time where people, your friends, the people who love you the most, tried to intervene in your life. Is that true or is that an exaggeration?"

Christina replied, "I think there were some definite ex, disgruntled employees along the way. Whenever things happen like this to you, some people just want to kick you when you're down. For me, I've been in this business a very long time. . .and you're going to have your high moments and your low moments."

She continued, "Right now I feel that I've found my true friends and people who are really there for me and have stuck by me and have just supported me. When you're going through a hard time, you don't need people judging you and ridiculing you. The people that are around you are going to be the ones to support you and love you through whatever difficult time you're going through."

Lauer kept at it- "But you did have those people, too. You had the friends, because there were people who were not attacking you, who were genuinely concerned about you."

But Aguilera rebutted, "Well, only I know that. Some people like the drama of creating [stories] around you to make themselves look better, like, 'Oh, I saved her,' when really you just have to be a friend and support."

Mel Gibson & Jodie Foster Premiere “The Beaver” In Cannes

Posted: 17 May 2011 10:59 AM PDT

Their new film "The Beaver" has gotten off to a rough start here in the States, but Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster looked to be in good spirits all the same during the 64th Cannes Film Festival today.

The "What Women Want" hunk and the "Panic Room" star showed up to promote the flick's premiere at the Palais des Festivals along with celebrities like Bar Refaeli, Doutzen Kroes, Naomi Campbell and her beau Vladimir Doronin.

During a press conference earlier in the day, Jodie was asked about her association with Gibson, especially considering his penchant for scandal.

She explained, "I can't excuse Mel's behavior. Only he can explain that. But I do know the man that I know. He's been a friend for many, many years, and as a friend, he is kind and loyal and thoughtful, and I can spend hours on the phone with him talking about life. And he's complex, and I appreciate his complexity and what his complexity brings to his work."

She also mentioned that Mel got a great look at himself while working on "The Beaver." "Anything that you do that you obsess about and think about and give that much to, for six months of your life in his case and for years in mine, allows you to look deeper at yourself and at the people around you, at the effect of what you do, and that has to have kind of a therapeutic, cathartic end."

"I think he's proud of what he's shown, and I think he wants people to see that side of him. And he's an incredibly private man, so what he shows on the screen is as deep as you could possibly get, and that's our way as actors of telling people, 'This is who I really am.'"
